reading through the bible in 90 days + 7

On the first of the year our pastor challenged the entire church to read through the Bible in 90 days. He handed out a reading guide and encouraged everyone to try. I had never read the entire Bible, cover to cover, so I was excited to do it (truthfully and sadly, there are few books I have read cover to cover). All that to say, Ben and I were doing it along with two other of our camp friends- so I had plenty of accountability and encouragement. At first Ben and I were flying through it. Some nights we would read together out loud to keep it interesting (sometimes the old testament makes you a little sleepy). But I was loving it. There were definitely some things in there I for sure had never really read before. It was so interesting to read about the character of God in the old testament and wonder how that compares to our new covenant in Christ... and just to see how dumb the Israelites could be in not trusting God- and how I am JUST like them.

And then came Ezekiel, and somehow I just got stuck in that book like a fly in honey. Let's be honest, at times 16 chapters or so a day can get to be difficult. And I missed a few, thinking I would just double up, but then missed a few more... and before I knew it I was in Amos when I should have been in Luke. I don't know how it happened. I allowed myself to lose the discipline that it took to read that amount daily. I still thought I could plow through the new testament and finish in time... but I didn't.

The end of the 90 days came and went, and although not still stuck in Ezekiel, I wasn't wrapping up Revelation on that last day either. But, today I finished! And it was great. Not gonna lie, great to be done. Moreover just great to have read through the entire bible (even if it was 7 days later than our church's goal). I liked reading so much in a shorter period of time because everything seemed so fresh. It seemed like one day Esther was queen and the next thing I knew Jesus was feeding the masses. I would love to do it again though, in a bigger stretch of time to be able to meditate a little more on all I was reading. Whether in 90 days or 97 days or 365 days, I think everyone should give it a shot. The living word of God is incredible...

I'm impressed! I've never done that...the "begots" get me. CONGRATS! I would have been WAY more behind than 7 days. See you SOON!

You finished! Congrats. I, too, agree that reading it straight though makes it very alive. Although...I did it in a year, not 90 days like you impressive people.
