today in substitute teaching...

So I "subbed" today for science. The 6th graders were supposed to make up a science experiment that could feasibly be done in the classroom. We talked about Independent and Dependent variables... you know the drill.
My favorite submission of a science experiment idea:

Problem: Do plants have feelings?
Independent Variable: The Plant
Dependent Variable: Feelings machine, hooked up to plant.

I wonder what the findings will be... Hey, you can't blame him for wondering... or can you?

hi :) I'm so glad you found us through Val's blog. and now I am very happy to have found your blog--this entry reminds me of many happy days I had teaching 6th grade. even if those little plants don't have feelings, I think this students response is an indication that he or she has feelings for the plant. which is nice. I heard that love can help flowers grow.
what's your name so I can tell Sam you found us?

I thoroughly enjoyed this post. Mostly because I didn't understand why this wouldn't be a good experiment for about 10 minutes and also because it was a boy who was so concerned with plants having feelings.
