I am a liar. A big fat liar. Mostly, I think because I am around a lot of children. Actually, I would like to retract my previous statement and maybe state that I speak in hyperbole... or that I often avoid certain topics with kids (for various valid reasons of course).
And so, here are all the lies I have told today... I am so sorry...
6:00am- Ben woke me up and said "You wanted me to wake you to do Yoga this morning" and I replied with "Okay, thanks, I will get up in a bit" knowing that I would not be getting up to exercise this morning.
8:30am- Heather brought donuts into work and told me I should have one. I responded with "I will probably eat a half" but I knew full well at that very moment that I would be eating the whole donut.
9:00am- I went to help with the Giant Swing which is a serious mud pit due to all the rain we have had. It also smells like a circus because there used to be horses in that field. A counselor said "Sorry you have to walk out here in the mud" and I responded by saying "I really don't mind". Now, I did not mind helping at all, but truthfully I did not want to be sloshing through all that mud. I just like being clean.
10:00am- Ben and I were supposed to be keeping time for a game the kids were playing. I forgot about setting the stopwatch and when asked how much time was left I just said "One minute!"
10:30am- A kid asked me what game we were playing in the afternoon and I said "I don't know, you will have to wait and see" ...but I did know.
11:45am- I told a grumpy little boy that he should eat a cheesesteak for lunch because camp cheesesteaks are delicious! I have never had a camp cheesesteak.
1:45pm- Two girls were arguing over who was fourth in line (fourth?!?) they went back and forth about who Miss Jess said could be next. I pointed to each and said "I think Miss Jess said you are fourth and you are fifth!" but I didn't hear what Miss Jess said at all, I just made that up.
And so, you see, I am a liar.
I hope you can still be my friend.

today...
-i had a meeting at 6am
-i drank a cup of coffee and a cup of black tea
-i greeted familiar faces of returning campers and met a lot of new campers
-Yusul, the polish boot maker, led group games while I kept score for "group games"
-i brainstormed about what to do with 64 campers on a hot sunny day who couldn't get in the pool because there was thunder
-i got to be on a boat on the river
-my co-worker was bitten by a snake
-friends surrounded me
-i was encouraged by the flexibility and great attitude of my staff
-i called a concerned mom to ensure her that her daughters were having fun at camp
-i walked through a lot of mud puddles and contemplated what the best summer shoe option will be if it continues to rain
-i made mistakes
-i smiled and laughed a lot
-my voice is already a little scratchy from one day at camp
-it rained raindrops the size of marbles
-i helped to dispose of a dead squirrel who was... in the way
-i sang worship songs with hand motions
-i filed papers in alphabetical order
-i ate/drank a slushie from snack shop
-it was the first day of camp- and I am excited. and tired.

on why archery is dangerous...
To become more equipped as part of the staff here at camp, I recently took a class to become certified in basic archery. It's true, I am a card-carrying-bullseye-shooting certified archer. Something I can honestly say I never thought I would do. In my training I learned that archery can be more accident-free than basketball, baseball and even soccer. Archery offers a controlled environment where injuries are rare.
I beg to differ...
Whilst learning the "ins and outs" of shooting a bow and arrow, I managed to sustain two pretty substantial (yet really very minor) injuries.
Injury #1:
I went to the big ol' target after we had shot our arrows to pull them out of the board, and while fixing my eyes upon my brightly feathered arrow, I somehow managed to run right into a bright orange arrow right by my left eye. HOW did I not see the bright orange feathers?? I don't know. Minimal blood from a tiny cut and a tiny bruise... but a really hurt ego. I ran into an arrow. Embarrassing. Injury #2:

Looking something like Robin Hood himself, I was all set to shoot my arrow right at the target, but when I released I snapped that bow string right into the crook of my elbow. Now I have a nice green bruise about 2 inches long.
Hooray for archery! Somehow, I am not sure that archery is my strong point. I hope to do a better job of teaching children...

today
Today- today is our two year anniversary. We made it! (just kidding) Though it is crazy to think that it has only been two years, and on the other hand I can't believe it has already been two years. Already two years of marriage and I still haven't put together a photo album to document the momentous occasion. This is the year folks, I can feel it. Seriously though, I feel very blessed to be celebrating our two year anniversary. I am thankful that I am married to Ben- very thankful. Year 2 is apparently the cotton anniversary as far as tradition goes, so he gave me a cotton dress. Last year, for the paper anniversary, he made me roses out of paper. So sweet.
On a somewhat related but far less important note, one year ago today I started this blog. (hooray!) I have really enjoyed writing, even though it is compiled mostly of lame and useless ramblings. Nevertheless, I enjoy it. I hope some of you have enjoyed it too. I really love reading your blog (if you have one, and have told me about it... and if you have one and are keeping it from me, that is just cold).
Today is also a day when even more staff has arrived from all over the country to come work at camp for the next 10 weeks. Tomorrow is our first big "staff-meeting", and I am really looking forward to it. In some ways, I feel completely unprepared, but I wouldn't trade the mild stress-- I have been looking forward to tomorrow for a long time.
