nutrish

Most of you probably know that I love Rachael Ray. All five feet of her annoying New York self, including her "EVOO" and typically vegetarian-adaptable recipes. Love. So when my aunt called me to tell me that she had switched my puppy's food to this dog food made by Rachael Ray... I said, "Rigby's eating Nutrish!" How wonderful. Yes, Rach even has her own dog food called Nutrish, and supposedly it contains pure and simple ingredients (and it beats the $30 a bag price of the prescription stuff...) We will see if it is really hypo-allergenic enough for my pup (probably not), but it is worth a shot- and come on, it's by Rachael Ray, how can that be bad?! AND a portion of the proceeds from every bag sold will go to Rachael's Rescue, a charity to help pets in need. (Did you know that Carolyn?)

good things don't come easy

I griped before about not being able to find a winter coat... you know, that whole "didn't buy it remorse" as I liked to call it. Well, I was persistent in my search for a winter coat. I know my need of a winter coat is really relative, but nevertheless I searched and searched determined to find myself a new coat. And I did. A good deal in fact and free shipping, to boot! Granted, it is the brightest piece of outerwear that I have ever owned. It's like this lemon yellowish-green citron color, but it has long sleeves to accommodate my monkey-like arms and it is warm! How very wonderful. My hope is that warm weather is right around the corner here, but just know-- I am so prepared for next year's wintry weather. I can battle the cold and be a reflective beam in the nighttime!

25 things

For the past few days I have been fighting this annoying head cold. It's been making my nights kind of restless, and tonight (or, this morning) I just cannot sleep. I mean I fell asleep- but now for some reason I am awake. Yesterday was kind of a long day, and I have another one of those ahead of me tomorrow... but I just continue to stare at my ceiling fan. So, sometimes staring at the computer screen instead makes me sleepy.

I have been getting a lot of those "facebook tags" to do the 25 random things about me- I love reading others, but I just never do it. My cottage dwelling friend here at camp blogged about her "25 things" instead of doing it on facebook- so I will take it from an expert and list 25 random things about me on this blog, I guess.

1. I am thankful daily that the Lord is my creator, my father, my portion, my deliverer...

2. I don't like meat and half the time I just really wish I did.

3. I think about adoption- and how that will play out in my life- almost every day.

4. I don't like fantasy-based movies (or books...) I don't think I have a great imagination.

5. I am mildly o.c.d. about like, crooked pictures on a wall, things being in alphabetical order or color coded, cleaning...things like that.

6. I like to read, but I never like it enough to actually set aside time to do it.

7.I first tried to dye my hair using peroxide when I was in middle school. Since then, I have dyed my hair almost every year, at least once a year (so bad!).

8. I wear crocs almost every day to work at camp- even thought I hate the shoes and I think that every time I put them on. But what better to clean stuff in than rubber shoes!?

9. Multiplication facts, times tables- call them what you will- I do not know them.

10. I don't like animals that live in cages (excluding the zoo, that's a little different...).

11. I'm kind of afraid of aquariums. Mostly tunnels, but sometimes aquariums feel like tunnels. I know it is all mental, but I hate the thought of being closed in with water pushing on the walls all around me.

12. I like being around people 99.9% of the time.

13. I chose to be a Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution major in college because I looked through the list of all of the majors offered and thought that looked like the most interesting and do-able major.

14. I like to write. Sometimes I miss the days of writing papers in college (sometimes), and I think that is partially why I decided to start a blog.

15. I wish my dad would call me more often.

16. I love to recycle.

17. My aunt is moving to Georgia in June and I feel like, as a grown up, I should be able to deal with this... but I really don't want her to leave.

18. I love the beach (so Georgia isn't so bad of a place after all...).

19. I do not like getting in the water- pool, beach, whatever. I will stick my feet in, but unless it's a shower I am really not interested in getting wet.

20. I love to travel and wish I could do it more often.

21. I love that I get to live and work at the camp I grew up coming to as a kid.

22. My favorite color is purple, which is a direct result of my aunt telling me when I was younger, that purple was my mom's favorite color.

23. I can't stand to touch velvet. I don't know what it is, but the feeling of it is just... so... weird.

24. I think my husband is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

25. It has been about an hour and I am still not tired... but I will try to go back to sleep!

produce.

I happen to love Whole Foods, and I particularly enjoy their fresh produce section. This week I went a little overboard. I think I bought more fruit than any other essential grocery items. It was all just so colorful...

ben got a nose job

My sweet husband finally got his nose fixed. It's been about 8 years since he has taken a deep breath through his nose, thanks to a terribly crushed septum caused by a basketball to the face. Well, today he finally got surgery to straighten things out in there- and now he's going through an uncomfortable and slightly painful recovery. Since he can't really lay down at all (and has the sensation of someone stabbing him in the nose with a sharpened pencil) I have been keeping him company because he can't sleep. But all in all, he is doing quite well. Off to play nurse- and watch a couple episodes from Lost...

in like a lion, out like a lamb

March is here, and it brought snow. A lot of snow. Well, a lot of, I've lived in MD my whole life and don't really know what real snow is, snow. And yes, I did go to the grocery store last night (where milk bread and toilet paper was scarce) to get some food knowing that I wouldn't go out today. Because no, I do not know how to drive properly on snowy roads. So again, we got a lot of snow. It's really quite beautiful and I am trying to have a good attitude about it. I actually like snow, but about two weeks ago we were sitting on our back deck sipping iced tea and enjoying the warm sunshine. I am really ready for spring, but thankful for a snow day nonetheless.

Ben "made" me play in the snow with him this morning. I got all bundled up for the occasion. And because my bulky attire was so warm, I did enjoy being outside. You know, it's tough to walk in 6 inches of snow, or whatever is out there.Happy snow day everyone! And happy March... I am really banking on that old proverb proving true- that this month's weather ends more lamb-like than it's lion-like beginning.
